To cover the cake
- 20cm/8inch round fruitcake
- 3 tbsp apricot jam, warmed
- icing sugar, for dusting
- 750g natural-coloured marzipan
- 750g white ready-to-roll icing
To decorate
- 500g white ready-to-roll icing
- green food colouring paste
- 200g icing sugar, plus extra for dusting
- 2 Christmas tree cutters, about 5cm and 10cm tall
- 1 egg white
- edible sparkles, available from cookshops
- green Smarties and silver chocolate buttons (optional)
Recipe
- Cover the cake with marzipan and white icing. (See stage 5 for more information).Knead the set icing, at that point split into three balls. Abandon one ball white, and manipulate a little green shading into the other two to give two distinct shades of green. Reveal each ball to around 5mm thick on a work surface gently cleaned with icing sugar. Stamp out around 15 tree shapes utilizing tree cutters, at that point leave to dry for a couple of hours or medium-term.
- Once firm, lift half of the trees onto a cooling rack. Consolidate the 200g icing sugar and egg white to make an icing, at that point shower it over the trees with a teaspoon. Disperse with consumable shines and leave to dry again until strong.
- Put a touch of good to beat all of each tree and press the trees around the edge of the cake, covering some to give a 3-D impact. Scramble the desserts over the highest point of the cake to wrap up. Can be frosted up to seven days ahead.
- To cover a cake with marzipan, first brush the cake done with a thin layer of warmed apricot stick. Residue the work surface with icing sugar, at that point reveal the marzipan equitably until the point when you have a 5mm-1cm thick round, around 40cm crosswise over for a 20cm cake. Lift over the cake, utilizing a moving pin to assist, at that point smooth with your hands and trim off the overabundance. Leave to dry medium-term or for a couple of hours. Delicately brush the marzipan done with cooled, bubbled water. Roll the icing out as you did the marzipan, at that point smooth with your hands, trim off the abundance and leave to dry.
